    Motherboard Replacement

Initially I thought that my new Radeon 5870 was faulty (see this thread for details) but after my PC refused to POST with either of my 8800 GTX's it seems the problem is more likely my motherboard. Being a Asus Striker Extreme it's basically impossible to find a new one so I'm left to scour eBay. They seem to be going for anywhere between £65 to £100 and I don't fancy paying that much right now. So I was wondering can I use any NF680i based motherboard as I basically don't want to have to re-install Windows. Unless of course that's not an issue anymore and you can swap motherboards without having to re-install Windows?

    Re: Motherboard Replacement

You might be able to get away with it depending on the chipset and drivers needed for the new motherboard. It will probably prompt you to install any new drivers needed. Personally I don't recommend doing this as in the past it's caused me stability problems afterwards.

    Re: Motherboard Replacement

You don't have to reinstall windows with any new board, you can either repair the installation using the DVD or a trick is if you can boot into windows at all, go and delete the motherboard drivers and display drivers and Windows should use default drivers too boot.
Also a Mac User, its 6 years old and still going strong! Motorola PowerPC G4 1GHz, 512Mb Crucial RAM, 80Gb HDD, Mac OS X 10.4.11! Ooh the speed!
