    acer pc @ 99c

my sister has one of these with the 3 core amd cpu and was bought from Curry's and is still under warranty.

    http://us.acer.com/acer/productv.do?...&CRC=183918767

as you can see from the title its hitting 99-100c running prim 95 after only 10 minutes of running and it sounds like a jet.

and surprise surprise it bsod or shuts down completely as the cpu is only rated up to 73c and it smells like its melting.

she called tec support and a guy from pc world came out and fitted a new heat sink and fan which done bugger all and its still overheating/melting.

she rang tec support again because it was still overheating and they sent out another guy from pc world with you guessed it a new heat sink and fan the same that was already on there.

after talking to him about the problem he came to the conclusion there might be a falt with the cpu/mobo and booked it in to be picked up to be bench tested.

    they never came.

she rings tec support to see why they never turned up and they said the guy that came out never booked it in to be picked up.

so they arrange for the pc to be picked up today and guess what they dont show up again.

she rings tec support again to see why its not been picked up for the second time and they say they have to ring the courier to see when they will be here and puts her on hold at 5.25.

6pm she is cut off and tec support is now closed.

so the question is should Curry's just give her a replacement as its clear the problem is the CPU runs to hot because its in a case to small and the heat sink ain't big enough to cool it down and the guy that designed the system at acer was on smack.

im pretty sure (even though currys will try to flob u off) that its down to the retailer, have a look at the "trading standards" website, or failing that just user the "sales of goods act"

that is of course if you can prove its not fit for purpose and so on, when did you get the system? is it in an enclosed area?? lots of qeustions need answering

Ouchy, at least her heating bill will be quite low...

Are you capable of having a look? Checking the seating of the HSF?

Unfortunately in my experience of DSG you won't get a replacement straight away if at all, I'd suggest a call to a manger (if you can get hold of one) or a letter sent recorded delivery & copied in to watchdog or trading standards, watchdog won't care but it might get your problem sorted.

Another option is to get hold of the email address/postal address of the highest person you can in the company, they often just help you to shut you up
Probably best with the chief exec - john.browett@dixons.co.uk

    Re: acer pc @ 99c

ill try an email to the chief exec as there customer service is shocking and the people they sent out to sort the problem are nothing more than part fitters with no software to test anything.

the heat sink is fitted on properly its just no where near big enough to cool it down in that small space with no air flow going through the case.

i did get it to 106c which is just ridiculous after 20mins of prim 95 and it just froze and shut down.
