    IDE controller driver

Since installing W7 64 on my brothers computer it has been "freezing" occasionally, and today I've been trying to install a new game and it will freeze up during the installation every time. I'm suspecting HD but it appears to run fine, ran test and didn't find any errors.

According to device manager the standard dual channel IDE controller is a 2006 microsoft win32 driver, so i ran driveragent and it's saying the same, problem? Been searching all morning and can't find anywhere to download a newer driver from, trying from within device manager just says its current and fine.

Board is Gigabyte MA790X-UD4, with WD3200AAKS

    click http://www.giga-byte.co.uk/products/...d=3002&dl=1#dl

choose the OS in the dropdown box on the right.

download Lan, Chipset and audio drivers, install them.

Thats the first thing I did after installing windows, the chipset drivers do not include IDE controller drivers.

    Re: IDE controller driver

Are any IDE devices being used on the PC? If not just go into the BIOS and disable the onboard IDE controller, I was having a similar problem a while ago and that sorted it. If you need the controller, check who the chip is made by (likely JMicron), get the model number and download the drivers from them.
