    Need help!!!

    Hello all

I'm having trouble with a pc i built today, the problem is that when i turned it on it lasted about 5 seconds before it switched itself off and then switched itself back on again.
it keeps repeating this constantly the hardware as follows.

    ocz mod xstream-pro 600w
    abit ip35-e motherboard
    nvidia 8800 gts
    2gb corsair cm2x1024-6400c4
    Intel Pentium Dual-Core E6500 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.93GHz (1066FSB)

I have a old antec true blue 480w i rigged the above to and it turned on and stayed on but i got no signal to the monitor.

would there be any reason why the setup above will not run together im clutching at straws to say the least your ideas would be most appreciated thanks for your time.

The fact that replacing the PSU gets you further suggests that he old PSU is toast. It's possible that when the PSU failed it took the motherboard with it.

That said - do you have another GPU you can swap in to see if this resolves your issue?

do the usual steps, have the bare minimum running, so only ram, cpu motherboard, if you have built in graphics on motherboard hen leave the 8800 out also.

one by one start adding additional items to determine what is causing the fault

    Re: Need help!!!

The psu he has is brand new. Only opened yesterday. The mobo and GPU were only replaced by me 2 months ago and were working perfectly fine in my computer. This is the first they have been used since then. I have told him to try everything in another computer though leaving the psu till last. Im stumped as to what could be causing it.

I guess if this new psu has took out any of the hardware that OCZ arent liable?

    Re: Need help!!!

Hi there, I had this once on a P3. It all came down to laeving the side off, and the aor flow not being optimal to cool the CPU. It would be worth checking that the CPU coller is working efficiently.

    Re: Need help!!!

does that board support that cpu as being an abit it's probably pretty old on the bios update front and that cpu is pretty recent so may not be supported

but, also try it with just 1 ram stick in (if you have any other ram try that as well) and make sure you have cleared the cmos!

    Re: Need help!!!

cmos has been cleared and have tried one stick of ram. Need to update bios and see what happens after that. Would this stopp the computer powering up? I thought if anything - it would power up and get stuck at the bios screen.

    Re: Need help!!!

suppose it depends if it has the wolfdale support bios if it has then I'd expect it to boot

also what voltage does the ram need? it may well be that the ram needs more than the default 1.8v which would explain the reboot loop
