Computers aren't supposed to Spark, right?

So, I turned on my comp...turned off after 3 seconds.. Odd I thought. Tried again and this time my power supply (500 watts) sparked smoked and I freaked out. unplugged everything and assumed my PSU has gone to the grave. Bought a new one (750!) and once again... 3 seconds turns off. I've built at least 3 rigs so I have a decent experience with building..my rig has worked great for 2 years so i dunno what could've failed. It's either my heat sink/cpu/or motherboard right? I dunno.. my mobo is 2 years old.. my CPU less than a year..

Have you guys had this experience before? And if it wasn't my PSU...why the hell would it spark and start smoking?!

    What brand PSU's were they?

If they was a no-name brand such as Winpower, or some other cheesy sounding name you should stay well clear.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Re: Computers aren't supposed to Spark, right?

The one that sparked was an Antec. Then I replaced it with a Thermaltake.. but still doesn't turn on. so I dunno..it could either be the Mobo or the CPU. Sigh.. why are building computers so expensive.

Yeah, I had a Hiper that blew up. Destroyed my motherboard, CPU and RAM. I suspect you've probably sustained some damage.

Ugh...well..my old case is getting slightly rusty...and have been looking for an excuse to get a brand new one thats bigger..

    Sigh.

I do a lot of 3D work (maya, UDK, Zbrush) and extensive Photoshop work and heavy gaming. Why the hell not, any motherboards and CPUs you guys recommend? Or brand?

Ask in HEXUS.hardware forums, just say what you want, with what budget and what you're going to do with the PC (I know you've said it here) and you'll get plenty of suggestions.
