    HP Pavilion dv2000 seemingly dead

I have been asked to fix a 'dead' HP Pavilion dv2000. When you switch it on control keys light up and the screen glows but nothing else. An external screen does not display anything. There are no bios beeps or other sounds although a) I can hear speakers clicking slightly and b) I did manage to get it to beep in response to key depressions - protest beeps rather than anything useful.

I can hear the disk spinning and the processor fan running. The DVD bay light comes on if a disc is present and it also spins but nothing on screen and no sound (DVD or music CD).

Any suggestions please or is it for the scrapheap?

Re: HP Pavilion dv2000 seemingly dead

A friend had one of these die on them a few months back and it was *just* outside of the extended warranty (HP extended the warranty on them due to so many issues) but beware - the fix is, apparently, just to max out the cooling fan with a BIOS upgrade for any replacement / repair which is covered for 90 days only. Probably better off junking it and getting something better designed... Might be able to strip down and sell some of the parts or the whole lot as "spares or repair" on ebay.

Edit: Warranty check URL here (from a quick google). No idea if it's original warranty or extended included but may be worth a shot:

A GPU reflow will probably work probably, google for some laptop repair place and send it there.
Normally they charge about 100 for that and if it dosnt work they just charge some nominal fee
    like 25 quid.
