Wont post with memory in Channel_1

    Hi All

My machine wont post when I use memory channel 1

    I have the following setup
    amd 965be x4
    corsair dual channel 2x2gb 1600mhz
    gb 880gm-ud2h

    Dual channel is laid out so that slot0 + slot2 = Channel_0, slot1+slot3 = Channel_1

when i boot with memory in dual channel with either configuration (slot0+1 or slot2+3)

i get nothing but long beeps and it wont post

if i put it in channel_1 alone, i get the same

channel1 appears to not work at all on this

if i put both ram modules into channel0 (slot0+2) it works...

likewise, it'll boot with one module in either of the channel0 slots (both sticks confirmed)

Really confused about why this wouldn't be working...

    Am I missing something?

You've eliminated the RAM. You've eliminated the other slots....

Sounds like your trouble shooting is conclusive - the memory channel is dead.
Other than the usual BIOS update in case of a bug, test with other RAM if you can, then return it if the results are the same.

Memory channel on the MB or CPU? Do you know whether OCUK (CPU) and Scan (MB) are any good for rma?

    cheers

That's a good point - there is no conclusive way to know if it's the memory controller on the CPU itself or a problem with the motherboard without physically swapping the parts out.

Assuming a CPU hasn't been overclocked / overvolted and pushed to it's limits, they are very reliable components. But again, I must stress that without swapping them out you can't be certain of which is at fault.

both brand new... i'll swap the motherboard first simply because it's cheaper! I'm crossing my fingers it's the board as scan will be much better to deal with i'm sure

This is where buying from the same retailer can quickly pay for itself. I've seen Scan take all the components back in a bundle like this to find the one at fault, with no extra charge to the customer.
They are very good customer service in situations like this in my experience
