    search problem

Hi all i have a laptop on windows 7 with an external hard drive full of music files. When i type in the title of a song in the search entry i am told that no items match my search. I am asked to look in librarys home group computer or custom. When i select computer the search works. I would like the search to begin as i type . Can anyone help

    Re: search problem

You need to index the external drive. Click start, then type "search" (no quotes) in the search box and click "Change How Windows Searches". Click Modify and select the external drive.

Leave it to index, after that it should do as you ask.

Have you tried "Troubleshoot search and indexing"?

You could try going to Advanced>Delete & Rebuild Index, but if you've not disabled the indexing service or something like that it should work fine (assuming that your music files are of a file type specified in the File types dialogue)

Have you added the external drive to your music library?

    Re: search problem

Go to the music library in Windows explorer.

At the top it says "Includes: 1 location", with "1 location" written in blue.

Click the blue bit, then a new window will come up showing the locations included. Click "Add", and then find the USB hard drive, then select it and click the "Include folder" button.

    Should work.
