    help! bailiffs

    Ok this is not for me, but my sister however i belive she has been screwed over big time....

    Long story short!

    My sister was at a traffic light when an officer on a bike pulled her over, reason being that she had her number plate in the window, it was in the window because she had recently had the front of her cars bumper ripped of so unable to put it back on (was awaiting a front bumper) either way, she needed the car for transport (work)

    Now she was issued with a £30 fine from the cop, fair enough. She went to the cop shop in town, kicked up a stink and then heard nothing more from them,

    No letters or anything that is!

    Now all of a sudden this morning at 6.55 she had a knock at her door, (about 8 months later now) it was a bailiff, he continued to tell her that she had to pay £350 and that if she did not pay it then he would take her car,

    He produced some paperwork and also stated that it has been to court and so on,

    Either way im almost 100percent something is not right and she has been screwed into paying him more then this fine, which she has also stupidly done by cash in hand.....

    Any advice would be great!

    Take any paperwork received and go to the CAB immediately.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

    Re: help! bailiffs

    ive just found out that the only paperwork he produced was a receipt when she payed him the money (orginaly my mother has told me details and got some wrong 50year olds eh? lol jking guys)

    Anyhow...he only said he had paperwork, that is all! he said he wouldnt not leave untill she payed him and if she didnt pay him, then he would take her car,

    ive already advised her to take action.....

    Re: help! bailiffs

    Just to also add, the bailiff also said that letters have been sent out already, (which clearly have not and they are only doing so to add money on!)

    so...my sister is a single mum and the bailiff not only scared her into paying it but also scared her son, Anyhow i found this!

    NATIONAL STANDARDS FOR ENFORCEMENT AGENTS may 2002

    Those who might be potentially vulnerable include:

    * the elderly;
    * people with a disability;
    * the seriously ill;
    * the recently bereaved;
    * single parent families;
    * pregnant women;
    * unemployed people; and,
    * those who have obvious difficulty in understanding, speaking or reading English

    She just happens to fit in the single parent bit,

    so either way she also payed half of it by card, so ive told her to contact the bank and retract the payment. lets hope they can do it!

    These guys need a good slap lol, cannot belive they did this to her, and i cannot belive she payed so much for a £30 fine...

    You need to take professional advice. It doesn't take much time browsing the Web to come to the opinion that baliffs themselves are unaware of their legal responsibilities in many cases. There is a lot of good advice on the Web. You could do worse than start here.
