Gigabyte X58A UD3R power error beep code on POST

So I upgraded my bosses gaming PC today, he bought a Gigabyte X58A UD3R, an ATI 5970, a Core i7 extreme processor, a 128GB SSD and 6GB of very nice ram and so I put them all into his PC. For reference he has a 700Watt PSU.

Unfortunately, it is not getting past POST and giving the error beeps are lots of short beeps.

This indicates a power problem. I have all the cables in the Motherboard, inc the CPU power.

I ran out of time today and have been searching for ideas. I will go back tomorrow and work on it some more.

I didn't have time to double check the power cables going into the PSU, it is possible that one came lose during the transition.

he has lots of parts so I can test other PSU's, but I wanted to make sure that a 700W PSU was enough to power that CPU and GPU.

I want ideas to try when I go back tomorrow to get it working.

Fire away and I will give them a shot.

Watts mean nothing on their own. You need to know Watts and Amps, at a minimum.

If it's a generic 700W no brand PSU, you'll often have issues. If it's called "Q-tec" or "EZ-Cool", then you've been done. Take it out, throw it away and buy a proper unit.

if its lots of beeps (endless loop), then its a RAM problem. Make re-seat the ram and make sure they are in the correct slots.

For this board, the ram needs to be in slots 2/4/6 (if its 3x2gb sticks) NOT 1/3/5

If the beeps alternate in pitch, then the CPU is not seated right, or there is something wrong with the cpu area.

TBH i don't think a PSU will cause any beep code errors

    Ram in the wrong slots,

User manual was in Japanese, should have spent more time trying to read that page!

Cool. I'd still swap out the PSU if it's a naff make.

Actually it technically needs to be in 1/3/5 not 2/4/6, however the labelling is unusual and it's what we'd think of as 2/4/6.

    Ie, they are labelled:

    [CPU side here] 2|1|4|3|6|5

So they need to be placed in the slots furthest from the CPU, 1/3/5. This is clear in the manual, then again, mine is English which certainly helps!
