    Laptop power supply

Booted m laptop up and once in windows had a box saying, there was a new version of adobe to install. So said to install the update and it did the progress bar thing, then asked if I wanted to install some Norton free scan (I un-ticked the box for that). I then clicked 'next' to finish the install and nothing appeared :| Checked add/remove and it had the new 11.5 version there, with today's date. Should I be concerned that a box saying it had finished did not come up?

Or am I just being daft?

I wouldn't worry too much about that, I'd say it's installed correctly

    Thanks!

I thought it had but with 2 weeks of 14 hour night shifts, the slightest thing is sending my mind bonkers.

Just a suggestion - give SumatraPDF a try instead. I won't type a lot about it, it should sell itself.

Yeah, it's one of the best pieces of software I've stumbled across and I'm constantly recommending it. It's about 2MB fully installed compared to Adobe's several hundred MB. The only downside I've found is it's not great at printing as it prints as bitmap so it can take a while to transfer to the printer but otherwise it's great, really fast and none of the Adobe security holes...

I'll give it a go at a friends house later, as he does not like using Adobe.

    Cheers

    Re: Has it correctly installed?

I'm happy with the one I have but will pass the suggestions on.

    Quick question on another topic:

My sisters power supply needs replacing (the power cord that is) Now I found this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fujitsu-Siem...8127170&sr=8-1

Now her laptop is a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Li 2727- am I right in thinking this power supply will fit any Amilo Li 2727?? I mean I don't have to go by the model number?

    Re: Has it correctly installed?

That's listed as a 'compatible' power supply, I wouldn't have a clue who it's made by. A friend bought a similar replacement PSU a while ago which lasted a few weeks apparently - if it were me I'd go for either an official one (usually very expensive) or one of those FSP (or another good brand) universal ones.

No idea where to get an official one from, but will try this for now. Is there a way to get one directly from Fujitsu-Siemens?

Hope it does not kill the laptop battery or anything!!

    Thanks

    Re: Has it correctly installed?

As watercooled says, itr isn't an OEM device, it is an aftermarket, sold by an Amazon associate. At £13 you can't really go wrong even if it packs up in 12 months - and the reseller is British based so there is less risk than buying off an auction site.

The PSU doesn't usually charge the battery directly, there is usually a charging cct in the laptop, so provided the output voltage is suitable and the unit can supply the required current, there shouldn't be a problem.

That said, if you have any concerns, by a branded one, like the FSP watercooled (again) referred to.

    Re: Has it correctly installed?

Got the replacement laptop power supply today.

It is manufactured by FSP- is that a good thing?

Also the input on the back is the same as one it is replacing, but the output is different. On the new one it has output as 19V 3.42A, and on the old one its 20V 3.25A for the output.

The other thing it has AC before input, and DC before output on the new one.

Just wanted to check that this new one is ok to use, even with the DC output being different slightly.

    Re: Laptop power supply

FSP are one of the best power-brick MFRs to my knowledge, sort of like Seasonic or similar are for ATX power supplies. About the different output voltage - it really depends on the power supply in the laptop, it should be able to tolerate 1v difference no problem but I couldn't be certain. If it's advertised as compatible and it doesn't work you shouldn't have any trouble returning it though.

My only concern is that it could harm the laptop with the slightly different output.
