    2hdd Masters On Separate Channels?

    Can someone explain how this works exactly, and if it is worth doing?

    "If you have IDE drives, you can also boost file system performance by setting both physical disks as masters on separate channels. That way data can flow freely and simultaneously between both disks and the system bus. This setup allows Windows to access and load system files while simultaneously paging to disk. The end result—increased performance."

    How do I make both "masters on separate channels"?

    Sounds interesting, I'm in the process of tweaking my Windows and squeezing every bit of performance out of it without losing any essential features so far so good... but this looks like something that would be of interest to me, I just need to hear from someone who knows more about it.

    Is this only IDE though and doesn't apply to modern SATA HDD's? I didn't know about a Master/Slave switch physically on my Hard Drives, I just put them in my pc and connected the SATA cables...

    Thanks

    Master and slave configs only apply to IDE drives, not SATA.

    For the case of IDE, most motherboards at the time when IDE was king; had two IDE channels for a total of 4 devices;

    Channel 1: Master & Slave
    Channel 2: Master & Slave

    If you had two IDE devices, having two on one channel would mean bandwidth would be split between the two on that one channel, where as having two devices but each with it's own channel (i.e. both as master) allows both devices to make use of the full bandwidth of their respective channels.
