    Broken iPod?

One of my friends, in their infinite wisdom and infallible ability of people to blame you for their problems, has had their iPod stop syncing properly to their iTunes since this July. This happened after a reinstall of windows (to clear up the complete and utter rubbish that had be sprawled all over it...).

The laptop she uses is an Dell Inspiron of some unspecified model that I can't seem to find. The iPod is an iPod classic 120GB.

The erorr messages displayed on attempted sync are:

    error -50
    error -49
error: file could not be found.

EDIT: error: -69 just popped up

I get the last one (she's trying to sync stuff that she's deleted) but help would be much appreciated with the others!

re-initialise the ipod - but it means loosing everything on it. Alternatively, if tghe ipod can be seen as a disk drive, you might be able to copy the files off it and import into i tunes, initialsie and then resync the saved files back. (I have done that using a Linux/Ipod application. - but it requires patience)

A little program called iDump will allow you to access the iPod and take off whats on there before you do a master reset on it.

    Re: Broken iPod?

I may happen to have copies of everything on her iPod from when I last backed up her computer... Just maybe...

I'll tell her to reset it and see if that cures it.

    Many thanks!
