Black Ops and XBOX live party- New Info!!

For some reason I can not join or connect to my friends live party. Last week someone in game did send a party invite, and I was able to join with no problems (until the black op server went down)

Now as far as I can tell my NAT is open as when I do the xbox network test no message appears, so does that mean its open? All the things come up as passed.

I have read about maybe it being the router, but how come I could join one party last week? Plus when I had red dead redemption I could party chat (although the multiplayer was never without connection issues)

So is anyone else having problems like this that they have not had before?

I've noticed parties lag out (kick everyone) a lot on blops but as for not being able to join my first guess would be NAT settings. MW2 is useful to check - set up a party and see what it says if you have it. You could try manual port forwarding (only if you have one console in the house, otherwise I think uPnP is the only way), you need to forward port 3074 TCP and UDP, port 88 UDP. If you don't have a mainstream router you may need to manually configure outbound routing and firewall settings but most off-the-shelf routers do it automatically.

I tried to set up port forwarding before and it never worked I think my xbox has an ip which changes all the time, so i'm clueless on what to do. I can join a party on my own :|

And as I said last week I was able to join a party by invite.

Get this error status report if I press Y:

    W: 0000- 000B
    X: 0000- F001
    Y:20A8- 4840
    Z: 0000- 0000
    ID: FFFF- FFFF

if that means anything. This is getting frustrating no idea how i could join a party last week, but now can't. Surely that can't be my router?? Why would it let it do it once and not now?

No idea what that means, it's something MS (or Google) would know. To set up manual port forwarding you need to make your 360 have a static IP.

How do I do that? Do I need to make an ip address up for the xbox 360? Should I follow this http://portforward.com/networking/staticip-xbox360.htm ??

Yeah that look about right, it's designed for the old Dashboard but I think the process should be mostly the same.

Just before I went to bed last night I was able to join a friends party, but after 3 min lost connection. Is there any reason why it will work on occasions, and then not at all?

Re: Black Ops and XBOX live party

Ok I have set a new ip address for my xbox and entered the subnet, router ip +dns settings- and I can connect to xbox live, but is says the NAT is strict

UPnP is enabled as I can see it is on the router home page. I have turned the modem and router off with no joy. I did open the ports that microsoft say to as well. Any ideas?

You only need the ports I listed, opening more could do more harm than good. You need to make sure you're forwarding the ports to the correct IP address and that rules have been created in the router's firewall to allow the packets in.

I set the ip address on the xbox and then put the last few digits in the page for the ports. I have no idea how to create rules in the router firewall :|

I think this issue is a combination of the last xbox live update, and black ops

Re: Black Ops and XBOX live party

Do I need to enter the ip address I give the xbox in the DMZ??? I have tried giving it an ip, and opening ports. Nothing seems to work

Do I enter the ip address of my router that appears under lan settings or the default gateway under internet settings?

When I set the ip address for the xbox it does not register in the DHCP Client List or on the firewall log. What am I doing wrong? The last digits in the automatic ip for the xbox were 14, so I set it as 140 manually.

DMZ is something different, you need to forward ports to the IP address you gave your Xbox.
I'm not too sure what you mean by the second question, your router is the default gateway for your LAN.
Your Xbox will not appear in the DHCP list after you assign an IP manually because DHCP is what automatically assigns IP addresses - if you set one manually your Xbox won't need to ask the router for one. 192.168.x.140 should be fine.

Ok well I did set the xbox as 192.168.x.140, and entered the subnet mask, and gateway. I then entered the DNS settings for virgin media which are 194.168.4.100 (is that correct?)

I can sign into my xbox live account when I set the ip etc, but on the network test it says strict NAT. UPnp is enabled, and I had the ports you said to have open set to the xbox ip.

Do I need to disable UPnp??? what else would use it?? Have one pc wired to router downstairs, mine + xbox by wall plug, and one wireless laptop.

UPnP won't make any difference when you manually set up port forwarding, UPnP is a simple albeit poorly thought through way of forwarding ports automatically. What router are you using? On most what I said should give you open NAT straight away but as I said earlier some routers don't automatically configure outbound NAT correctly.

I have a Belkin f5d8236. I know the xbox 360 network test would tell me when the NAT is strict, would it do the same for moderate? As at the moment is passes the test with no issues. I'm starting to think this is all because of the recent xbox update.

I have also noticed my xbox ip changes are strange. I'm sure it would change the last number but go no higher than 12, now its at 19 and may go on. Any idea when it will start at low numbers again? I only changed the ports which are now closed, and the ip on the actual xbox plus the entering other info it needed. Is the xbox ip going up and up due to having previously set an ip for it? (all xbox connection settings are back to automatic now) The last number used to be between 2-10.
