    Motherboard & Memory

    Finally upgrading my motherboard and for the first time entering the world of DDR3 and taking advantage of my newly acquired SSD.

    I've pretty much decided on the Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 but given the various revisions and never knowing which revision a given e-tailer will supply I'm not sure on which RAM to get. Not likely to do any overclocking or anything fancy except maybe attempting to unlock the fourth core on my Phenom II X3 720. The board I'm looking at has fairly significant changes to the RAM DIMM slots between rev 2.0 and 2.1.

    I'm thinking about the following RAM;

    looking at the QVLs this isn't there but very similar RAM is. I don't foresee any problems but thought I'd put it out there and see what other people think.

    Re: Motherboard & Memory

    I've used that particular Gigabyte board before and I did not have an issue using some Kingston RAM that was not on the QVL.

    Also, Corsair is a solid company for providing RAM, so I doubt you would find any inconsistencies with their quality.

    In short - go for it - there seems to be a very low likelihood of an issue occurring!

    The only way I would not go for it was if you were planning on overclocking the RAM past its recommended ratings, in which case, for maximum compatibility I would try very hard to get some RAM that is on the QVL.

    Something else you can do is e-mail Gigabyte and inquire directly - they are very fast to respond in my experience.

    Hope that helps!
