Re: 4GB installed Memory 2GB usable
If yoyotech built it with this setup then they did a piss poor job and you should take it back, sounds like it is either faulty dimms, a bent pin on the socket, or more likely (in my experience) they havent configured the bios to supply enough voltage which is a common problem on the x58 setups so possibly on the p55 also.
I would suggest in this order;
1. I still think you need to check that the system bios is configured to supply the correct voltage to ur dimms and if fully populated sometimes the QPI needs to be increased. The forums for the mobo or memory manufacturer is a good port of call for specific settings but generally I would first turn on XMP if its not already on, most 16000 dimms should have XMP enabled, if not then manually set SPD and adjust dimm voltage to recommended level, i.e my Corsair 2GB dimms require 1.6v, my default bios settings only supply 1.2v and with 6 dimms I also had to up the qpi to 1.35. IMPORTANT - read up, every system is different and messing with voltages is done at your own risk
2. Try running memtest+ on each memory stick, one at a time in slot 1, 5 passes should do it (about 2hrs for a 2gb dimm) if error free on each dimm then memory is most likely OK
3. Take a close up photo with flash of the CPU socket if your comfortable dismounting the CPU. Examine the image for any signs of bent pins, its very hard to spot since they are soooooo small. DONT examine the socket itself as it is very easy to damage a pin and not easy to repair
Still think you should raise this with yoyotech if u paid them to build it and they will be responsible for any remedial actions such as voltage tweaks

I will do that over the weekend. Im getting fed up with this.
Re: 4GB installed Memory 2GB usable
this prob i had but i sorted mine buy just loosening the cpu water block and then powering back on and semt to fix it but i was on the gd80 but there so many ways to fix this
Re: 4GB installed Memory 2GB usable
yeah too much pressure can flex the board causing it.

Depending on exactly what dimms u have u will need at least 1.65v for hyperx, see here, if ur dimms have xmp from the link then enable that, if not then it needs to be manually set. Since u only have two dimms you should get away without having to turn up the qpi voltage but check to see what it is set at

this is a good idea
get MEMTEST onto a CD and boot from it.
Do one stick at a time.. take other one out
Re: 4GB installed Memory 2GB usable
I understand ur pain, this exact issue has caused me to alot of reading on three x58 systems over the last couple of months, two were due to voltage settings, so step 1, the other was a faulty dimm identified via step 2 :)
Re: 4GB installed Memory 2GB usable
Oh well I did everything I could to solve the problem.
I took the bundle back this morning to Yoyotech, they've tested it and indicated that the motherboard is faulty.
Therefore, they recommended replacing the bundle. But I decided that I didn't want that bundle and opted for the P6X58D-E MOTHERBOARD / INTEL i7-950 CPU / OC @ 4.2Ghz / FRIO CPU COOLER / 6GB DDR3 1600Mhz MEMORY
Now time to leave the office and get back home, and install / test this new bundle.

hope the new system is stable for ya

It is running perfectly. The way it should be.
Thanks
