    intermittent startup hang

I have been having an issue that seems to be getting worst, sometimes when windows 7 boots it gets to the desktop and slows to a standstill, the mouse works fine but i am unable to open anything, if i ctrl atl del after a few mins (if i wait that long before hitting reset) it will take me to the task manager but so slow I can't do anything. event viewer shows sod all apart from logging the power issue that comes with hitting reset. this used to happen now and again but it seems to be a daily issue now. wondering what i can do before going for a reinstall of windows to see if it nips it in the bud.

disabling startup items would make this a very long winded operation due to it being intermittent.

yep, updated chipset and raid drivers yesterday and it hung this morning, didn't make it all the way to a visible desktop mind you so i may be onto something there, found logitech updates for the G19 and G9 this morning so we will see.

I've been getting this. sometimes its every start-up and others it's non existent for the week.

I only noticed it after switching from a X25-V to a C300 as my Windows drive but your the only other person I've seen post something similar to my own problem.

    Re: intermittent startup hang

well i am doing a backup to my NAS and will be formatting later today, shifted the 60gb steam folder to a spare drive as that can stay off the 160gb intel drive for now..

since running updates to a few things i am getting stutters while playing music so time to wipe te slate clean and start again, should it still happen after that i will dig deeper.

not come back since this mornings hang when i unticked cyberlink, virtual clone drive, quick time, powerreg in msconfig, but intermittent bugs are a pain in the arse, just when you think its fixed it will bloody well hang again.

i even added a shortcut to task manager in the startup folder but i think a formats the best plan.

after all its been installed for over 6 months, a record for me :s

    Re: intermittent startup hang

i get this problem as well, sometimes win7 loads but i cant open anything or shut it down as it just hangs so i have to press the reset button and then it works fine.

tho most times it starts up and works fine.

it says this in the event viewer

the following boot-start or system-start drivers failed to load:
    startopen

    event id 7026

i tried online help but it just says to update the drivers which i have done but it still does it sometimes so i aint got a clue why it is doing it.

    Re: intermittent startup hang

i do wonder if its the intel chipset drivers, after installing the new version i get constant stuttering during mp3 playback, stuck the older version back on and its not as bad.

the problem did follow after the format as one of the 1st drivers to be installed was chipset and raid.

    Re: intermittent startup hang

so far so good on the 2nd to latest intel chipset drivers, do both of you run intel chipsets, if so what type ?

X58 here, FSB overclocked and its fine on 9.1.1.1025 version from 2009, 2010 saw no chipset updates and i installed this years 9.2.0.1021
dated jan the 4th that spurred me to format the pc as MP3 playback was terrible, stuttering and the mouse also jumped about. a clean install proved no better so i installed 9.1.1.1025 over the top and everything works again.

if i get the hang at startup again i will roll back to the version before that as i have the feeling its chipset drivers to blame for all this.

    Re: intermittent startup hang

slight update, totally pissed off that the stuttering did not totally go away, so i formatted again before i got to far in.

now i am instlaling things, listening to a few tracks and installing something else.

so far i have the nvidia drivers installed, its not those!

I do not think i will update the chipset at all this time and leave the ones on that come with windows..

i will backup part way in the hope of a restore to sort things out when i find the problem.

    my chipset is Intel 5520

not had it today and it booted fine so looks like its a random thing for me for some reason.

tho when it does hang its at the point when my antivirus kicks in it seems to hang but not 100% sure on that.

might be worth checking the boot log and see what that says.

so far with new drivers and a fresh install all is good (fatal last words) turns out the stutter issue was AIDA64 polling the SMART of the raid drives.

    Re: intermittent startup hang

still getting the boot to desktop then stop responding, mouse moves but trying to select anything results in the waiting circle...

    its getting worst now

about 1 in 3 boots does it.

may try the latest bios but i think pc upgrades in the works as motherboard and keyboards the 2 common items left since this all started.

X58 chipset and G19 keyboard do have a known issue but none of the fix's work.

    Sound very annoying tbh.

If its still the X25, could it be it is dying - a long shot but what else is there to try?

CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    Re: intermittent startup hang

thats working fine in my laptop, have replaced that with a pair of M4 256gb's

its wierd, the G19 will tick away showing the clock working, then it will freeze, then start again, mouse moves free but unable to select anything..

it could be the overclock acting up but other than that the systems rock solid and will pass any test.

if i boot the pc using wake on lan and forget about it then head up an hour later and reset the pc the event viewer just shows time outs, never anything if i reboot soon after the freeze. total pain in the ass.

i may dig out the G15 and try that for a few weeks.

its worst since i added a 2nd M4, wonder if its the pcie bus.
