LG 47LE5300 vs Samsung UE46C5800
I have the option of the two, same price excluding warranty, what would you go for?
Thanks!

Well, I'm biased, but the Sammy that I bought in September (UE37C6300) is very good. Took a while to set up and, at one point, I did have to RTFM, but on about 35% - 60% signal it's doing remarkably well on Freeview.
Although it's about 140W nominal power the picture is brilliant (more like a window than like the eye-burning cr@p in the shops) at around 45 - 70W.
BTW, if you do go for the Sammy I can let you have my settings.

Yeah, I would always go for a Samsung over most TVs. Has two myself over the past few years and they have both been great TVs and are still being used today. Out of curiosity, how much did you find the Samsung for?
LG is 47" <> Samsung is 46"
LG has 100Hz <> Samsung has 50Hz
LG seems better
Cant find much info on both online. Additional things I would take into considertaion is do each offer FREEVIEW HD and what's the speaker output in W ?
Whats the price?
From a personal point of view neither, as both a cruddy edge LED tvs. Much rather have a samsung 40C750 at the same price range, far better picture, 200hz, and 3D
Neither. I prefer Panasonic.
Based on empirical data - my two sons and a next door neighbour all had Sammys which gave trouble (including some pretty serious screen burn due to watching in 4:3) within first 12m, and I've had 2 trouble free LGs (and I watched in 4:3 too) - I'd say LG.
Guys, lets deal with the models and not our preference of companies : )
I like Samsung too cos I got a Korean friend working at their UK head office

I was looking at Panasonic until I found out that the EPG carries ads! Apparently they take up useful screen and are distracting.
As for Sammys giving trouble: after <4 months I don't yet know, but buying from John Lewis gave 5 years' warranty.
The book does mention about spending too long in 4:3 mode - trouble is, it's either that for some progs. or put up with stretchy vision!

I ended up with BOTH sets in my living room (a delivery error) so I could do a real compare and fiddle before making a decision.
I originally purhcased the LG but it failed after 1 day!!! (vertical screen lines), so I went for the Sammy as RS said they couldn't get another LE5300 in, but in the end, they could so I had the option. Both TVs were pleasingly priced at £699 - for a 46" LED TV, I thought this was good.
Even though the LG was 1" bigger and slighly higher spec, the Sammy was superior in every way.
True, the Sammy does not have 100hz, but after a week with the LG at 100hz, I ended up turning that feature off - it was simply no good. It made people/items/vehicles etc move really fast for a second then slow, very unrealistic and annoying. I read that LG does seem to have this problem more than others at 100hz, so I can't comment on 100hz in general, just on this TV....and on this particular model, it was no good.
After endless fiddling with both sets, the Sammy produced much better picture. The blacks were more rich, dark scenes had more detail, the colours were brighter etc etc. Don't get me wrong, the LG was still awesome, but the Sammy was superior for sure.
The LG had problems on certain inputs were it created some kind of motion lag (despite being rated highly), and even with 100hz off. This did not occur on the Sammy.
Rather superficial, but the Sammy looked nicer too!
Samsung also has Freeview HD as opposed to LG Freeview - but having SKY HD, this wasn't a consideration.
My old 6 year old LCD TV is a Sammy, and I've had zero problems with it, I was not impressed that a new LG failed after 1 day, so in the end, I am pleased the Sammy was better. It was great I could see this in my living room as opposed to a shop. Just goes to show, spec even though slight, isn't always the indicator! Saying that, I would have been delighted with the LG if certain problems could have been sorted, but having the benefit of the Sammy, for £699, I'm made up.
Thanks for the help!
ps. I would have went Panasonic (I know they make the best TVs) but no LED seemed available at 46-50" for reasonable price. Since I am an avid watcher and someone who always has it on in the background, I worked out the LED would save me money in the long run.
to be honest there probably isnt much in it, I wouldnt be suprised if the panels were made in the same factory!

I'd just get the one which i liked the look of and which had the better UI!
