bluray playback on hd6950 /w powerdvd

recently I swapped my trusty 5830 for a 6950 and it seems that I cannot play my bluray disks anymore (the player quits or displays blank screen). I wonder if anyone here has this problem?

overall I'm not happy with powerdvd at all, on the 5830 it couldnt play the disks when the computer was connected to my TV via the HDMI cable and now this

is there any alternative to this cyberlink cr@p?

what I have tried so far:

-playback with powerdvd 8
-....................powerdvd 10
-updating gfx drivers (funnily the latest one on amd's website does not work with the card)
-reinstalling all my powerdvds
-disabling the secondary monitor prior to the playback

any help would be highly appreciated

this app works so much better than pdvd...
