I give up! MSI BSOD again!

If you havent already seen i was having BSOD with my old board, from what i could tell it was down to a driver, however! new windows 64bit, new motherboard, same old problem!

i cant kind of replicate it now though, only occasinally mind! it seems when i start to multitask the rig bluescreens, the thing is, i ran memtest ALL night and it pass each time, hdd came back clear so im thinking that the only 3 possible cause's now are either the cpu, motherboard or psu but as the old board did this aswell i point towards my cpu or zalman psu...

However something i do remember is the voltage on the memory on auto can cause issues like this, but i cannot for the life of me remember the correct setting on my xms3 memory

Should i up the voltage? or is this a psu problem?

Re: I give up! MSI BSOD again!

Usually if the timings are set to auto then it will set them high requiring less voltage from the motherboard, however, in some cases memory can be extremely picky and require you to dial in all the values individually.

I suggest you find the exact product details of your RAM and put in all of the timings and voltages exactly as the manufacturer states them.

Thanks, about to do this now, the memory i have is XMS3 TW3X4G1333C9A 2x2gb

I've found they are rated at 1.5volts, going to check the bios settings. will report back shortly!

Did you try different operating system?

    XP/Ubuntu ?

64bit version of Windows 7 does suck, have a go at 32 if you can.

Yes windows 7 32 bit that was having the same problem, the only thing i've noticed with 64 bit windows is teh nvidia driver is abit crappy, ive i drag a window over anouther i see drag lines...ugly!

Anyway i've pushed the voltage up to 1.6 along with a mild OC, it doesn't seem to have taken affect on my cpu mind? I'm going back into the bios to see what else i can do, try and tighten up everything manually

Re: I give up! MSI BSOD again!

Well cpu is now sat at 3.33ghz, running pretty stable (i know it's able to get to 3.8ghz with no problems)

Memory is also running stable and not to mention startup sound works without trouble now XD i noticed a glitch in it, like a stutter really! so now it's time to test stability,

Reasons of this thread now? if people have the same problem they will know what to do thanks for the help Biscuit, think you have saved me many headaches XD

No problem! Might be worth running Prime 95 or some other stress program for a few hours to make sure everything is ok before you get too comfortable

Re: I give up! MSI BSOD again!

Since last post, rig has been coping back and forth 100gb worth of backed up steam game data aswell as playing windows media player ASWELL as prime 95 and yes i am typing this from said rig.

Stability? Not a problem anymore me thinks! I'm going to clock the cpu up abit and try and clock the ram abit more, its Frequency is 666.3mhz which correct me if im wrong is 1332.6 effective right?

Now im understanding that this ram is supposed to run at 1333, Would i be correct in thinking my ram has been slowed down?

Do you class 0.4MHz as a loss?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Not really but i want to clock up the ram anyway i'm sure it will not reduce speed at all but faster ram is always good

Re: I give up! MSI BSOD again!

RAM is not very partial to overclocking, so be careful. It won't make much real world difference anyway, tbh. If you wanted fast RAM you should've bought fast RAM

Re: I give up! MSI BSOD again!

    I posted similar question a while back in the Corsair section;

    http://forums.hexus.net/pc-memory/19...ifference.html

The Yellowbeard response was that the some of their XMS3 RAM kits had problems with AMD CPUs. If the naming convention is consistent, those with the 'A' suffix are Intel, and 'B' are AMD, but that may not be for all kits; I got very confused after a while and just bought the expensive 8GB kit; well I say expensive, it's now half the price on Scan than when I bought it

Anyhoo, it sounds like you've sorted the problem with popping up the voltage.

As for the frequency question, the RAM doesn't run at 1333MHz, rather the JEDEC spec refers to 1333MT/s (Mega Transfers). If memory serves, the memory clock x4 gives you the IO bus speed, and since you are transferring data on the rising and descending clock doubles up for the number of transfers per clock cycle. i.e. 166MHz clock freq = 667MHz Bus freq = 1333MT/s

Nice one, well i've not done anything to the rig since, its still running stable with prime95 running so i think i can say it's stable, ive now got a new problem though, the dvd drive wont read left 4 dead 2, that is the only disk it wont read, yet my laptop reads it fine lol oh the joys of building your own pc!
