Crisis with Crysis (haaaaaaaaaaa)

I wasn't sure where to post this so hopefully i got the right place.

Just got my new rig running and thought i'd give crysis warhead a whirl to see how it runs.
Basically the issue is that with the single player it gets to 80% then the screen goes black as though the resolution has been changed, then it either stays back or i'll be able to see the desktop, but no mouse and the application will still show up in the task bar. The same happens on multiplayer, only it hangs at 100% before doing all this.

Now people have said running the game in dx9 mode helps but that kind of defeats the point of be getting the game. I'd kinda like to get it fixed otherwise i've wasted my moneys...

if it helps the new rig is as follows:
4gb Corsair 1600mhz
AMD 1055t x6 AM3 processor w/ Coolermaster v6gt
1000w ocz PSU
MSI Twin Frozr II gtx580
2x 320gb Maxtor HDD's in RAID
AsRock 880g Extreme3 mobo
1tb WD Hdd for backup

I also have external 360gb HDD connected.

Have you even tried it in DX9? See if the game works first, reinstall if not.

I'm not sure how to get it to run in dx 9, but i've uninstalled my steam version and tried running both the updated and regular versions of the retail version...

afaik, there arent any visual differences between the 2 modes.

I've tried setting dx9 in launch options with steam and with retail version through right clicking etc but im still getting it come up as dx9 on the taskbar. wondering if its an issue with dx...

I had no issues with my gtx280

Yeh, did that as soon as i got the card. All the latest card drivers have been installed from nvidia.

have you tried running the game not in full screen?

just tried to run outof full screen and the same thing happens. Load to 80% freeze then crash. Same with Crysis wars, loads to 100% then crash.
