Looking for some guidance on SSD+HDD

Any general guidance would be helpful. I have a vague understanding of what I'm trying to achieve - but the specifics and how everything ties in together is eluding me (inexperience).

What I am aiming for is the following:
-To partition an SSD 75% usable, 25% unusable
-To install the OS in that 75% along with the drivers and a few games and whatever other files.
-To have a HDD run alongside the SSD and ONLY have it used to store miscellaneous files on. No operating system or drivers.

The main problem is I don't know what order to do these things in - should I be loading windows onto the HDD, then setting up the SSD from there, then wipe the HDD clean and load the OS onto the SSD?? I'm really not sure.

How to go about this? I'm not really sure - building the pc from scratch I see it this way:
    -Physically put the PC together
    -Wipe the SSD from BIOS
-Partition the SSD 75% and 25%. Lock off that 25% somehow - in BIOS
(are those 2 steps possible?? ^ in BIOS i mean)
-Install OS on SSD in the 75% partition
-Boot up windows, install drivers on SSD

I'm not sure what path to take when it comes to putting all my documents and media on the HDD... do I just set it up as a separate hard drive without any RAID configuration and can put data on it and off like normal?

    - Update the firmware on the SSD from another PC, if an update is available.
    - Only connect up the SSD. Disconnect any other drives.
    - Install Windows. Windows 7 setup will allow you to choose the size of the partition in the drive selection screen.
    - Connect other drives when the OS is installed.

Re: Looking for some guidance on SSD+HDD

Thanks - I'll have to take the road of installing the OS onto the HDD - then formatting and partitioning the SSD, then loading the OS onto the SSD and formatting the HDD.

Seems roundabout, but if that's the only way I can do it without an additional computer, meh is ok I just hope it's not illegal or anything to load the same windows 7 onto my HDD and SSD at the same time even if only for an hour or so ~~

Windows 7 will run fine for a long time without being licensed. Just don't give it a key and it'll be in the grace period until it decides to give you a black desktop background & that's about it.

I would actually do a fresh install onto the SSD, this way windows gets a proper alignment. It's always better to do this rather than imaging from a HDD

Do SSDs not have software to over provision the disk without partitioning? Samsung certainly do.
Does partitioning even do the same job?
