Anouther "can work do this?" thread :)
Long story short, i've had no ends of trouble with my place of work, health and safety issue's are just some of the few problems i've had....anyhow something new came up!
I use a pallet truck, drag heavy cages about and carry large bits of crappy furniture, so should i drop something heavy onto my foot, where do i stand? as work refuse to provide steal toecaps, i was sure that they should but could be wrong.
On anouther note, in our handbook it states the breaks/lunchs as follows,
Working hours,
4H - entitles you to no break
4h+ - 6h entitles you to half an hour
6h+ - 8h entitles you to 1 hour
That is in the handbook, but all of a sudden work have now decided that we wont be getting the half an hour anymore...or if you work 7 hours for instance (my shifts are this) then you are not entitled to a hour instead your now only entitled to half an hour.
Now we are known for doing 10 hour shifts, easy but how would lunchs and such work with that aswell?
But the main thing is this, can they do this? it states in the handbook what we are entitled to so i'm almost 100% sure if they change it, then they cannot apply it untill we get a new handbook correct?
And for the douche who said that he GARANTEES that my place of work would NEVER allow a health an safety issue, the floor is incredibly dangerous where i work and works answer was this "customers dont come out here so it it does not matter and we are getting a refurb out here at some point anyway" ye my manager really said that and grilled me for going on about it lol not that i slipped on the broken tiles or anything, my safety is not cared about :( if i moan about it they just pull me out of the job and place me doing something else i mean really? great way to solve underlying issues isnt it.
Re: Anouther "can work do this?" thread :)
I take it there is no union.
Contact something like http://www.hse.gov.uk/contact/workplacecomplaints.htm
i cant tell if they cover your type of work place.
Make a list of the problems so when they come round they will know what to look for.
Break wise what does your contract say, do you get paid for breaks?
Re: Anouther "can work do this?" thread :)
Does the handbook form part of your contract? I think the minimum break allowance is half an hour if you work more than 5 hours in 1 go (not sure when it goes up again).
Re: Anouther "can work do this?" thread :)
"HEXUS.help - buying advice & technical queries
Confused as to what to buy? got a technical issue or problem? if you need friendly help fast - ask here!"
Not sure why you've posted this thread in here.
With the amount of posts/complaints you've made regarding your workplace, I would have thought you'd have moved on by now. Isn't there anywhere else you can go?

I believe so yes, kind of anoying that they keep changing it!
I've been documenting all problems since my last thread, i've lost count of how many pictures of hazards i've taken, it must be past 40 now easily, the damaged cages plus hazard to health, there is a mega dust problem out there aswell, not sure if i can have anything done about it mind! But i do know im not the only person affect by it, caused anouther person to need a nazel spray its that bad lol!
Jokes aside i really need a new job but i can't just up and leave, got 2 kids to support and trying to get work around here seems pretty impossible for someone with only retail/warehouse expereince.

Last time I knew for sure it was half an hour if you worked more than six. Very important when working out how much overtime to do :D So if they've changed their allowance to remove the break for working 4h - 6h and reduced it to half an hour for 6h - 8h, yes, they could well be within their legal rights.
Frankly, the old scheme sounds pretty ridiculous (I'm assuming that was unpaid breaks not paid breaks - if that was paid break then it's stupidly generous and I'm amazed the company hasn't gone under). I wouldn't want to be forced to take a 1 hour break in the middle of a 6 hour day.

Not 1 hour if you work under 6 hours lol 6- 8 hours gives u an hour lunch :)
Re: Anouther "can work do this?" thread :)
is this tkmax ?
if so do you really think huge business like that would leave a loophole open for someone who likes complaining to find ?
be glad you get a break, i am lucky if i get a cuppa before i get home after leaving in the morning nevermind a flippin break!!!.
oh and does your neck click ?
Re: Anouther "can work do this?" thread :)
If I remember my lessons from Common Law while doing Business Sudies, an Employer must supply the correct equipment and tools for their staff in whatever job they are doing. (Not sure, am sure am right)
If this is giving you steel toe cap boots, it's something they must provide, but personally, shouldn't you buy your own if you into this kind of work anyway? I would want something nice. :p

What are you getting at? "neck click" btw get up earlyer if you want to spend some more time in the morning, and maybe don't work so much? It's not my fault you have a job with lots of hours is it? What has your post got that is either constructive or contributing to my thread BTW? :shocked2:
Re: Anouther "can work do this?" thread :)
Are you paid for the break?

Seems pretty clear here, 20 minutes is the only legal requirement and that's if you work over 6 hours.
TBH, just give up Razer121, you obviously hate working at TK Maxx and are constantly arguing with your managers over stuff that quite frankly, most workers just get on with and cope.

I knew that but my argument is the contract and the handbook, it states that so how can they change it without changin the handbook? i dont hate working there, tbh i really enjoy my job out in the warehouse  enjoy the manual work :) cant stand retail mind....i should work in a proper warehouse lol
Re: Anouther "can work do this?" thread :)
If you dont get paid for breaks and you do the same hours then doesn't that mean you now earn
more money? Being forced to take an hour and a half break when you don't get paid takes the piss
more so maybe look at it that way.
Re: Anouther "can work do this?" thread :)
if you can handle less unpaid breaks on your shift, go for it. but make sure you check your hours every week to check they are not deducting hour breaks still.
ask them why they haven't provided steel toe boots as im guessing its part of H&S. and i hope you are not on probation still, you sound like you hate the job :)
