    Overclocking utility

I read up on a few sites that the ASUS ROG Maximus IV Extreme provides a software that automatically overclocks your CPU and Memory. So my question is:

Shall I use this utility to overclock my system or shall I manually do it thru the BOIS?

Specs: ASUS ROG Maximus IV Extreme, Sandy Bridge 2600k, Corsair Vengeance 1600 @ CAS 8

    Re: Overclocking utility

Don't really know much about overclocking tbh, but I do know certain software alters the BLK which on the new sandy bridge chips is a big no no as it can kill the USB ports etc. I'd be tempted to do it myself since I think its really just the multiplier that you have to alter on these chips. Also don't up the voltage too high, their touchy at anything over 1.35-1.38v and could quite possibly die.

Again memory is limited to 1.5v, try not to exceed it as this again can upset the CPU.

    Re: Overclocking utility

I'd do it in BIOS. There are a number of useful guides around the net on how to do it (eg: http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/overc...beginners.html)

    Re: Overclocking utility

Only you can answer that. I personally would attempt to get to 4.5 and if successful leave it at that.

That's true. I was thinking like 4.5 n all with my H70 cooler - so I amuse my CPU temp will be cool :]

Btw on the clunk site, there's a guide "Overclocking to 4.5GHz @ 1.24v ~ 1.27v" what does 1.24 ~ 1.27v" mean? Is were you manually change the CPU Voltage?
