Just tried that, no difference :(
So, I just thought I would give a quick update on what ive tried.
I have been using the driver verifier as this was consistantly giving me BSOD's on boot-up (previously BSOD's have been completely random), got to a point where I narrowed it down to about 5 drivers, and then got to the point where I couldnt get into windows any more.
So ive done a fresh install, run verifier after install, and as expected it ran fine. Then I installed Daemon Tools Lite (Which I suspected to be a potential problem), and run the verifier again. This caused BSOD's on boot as previously, so got back into windows and run verifier again, and it ran fine.
So one problem (I have a feeling there is more than one problem though) was to do with DT Lite.
On this install I have also changed the SATA to be AHCI and also put the Optical Drive in port 5 as recommended in the manaul, installed the AHCI drivers and Southbridge drivers, and so far everything seems ok and quite speedy, but it's early days yet.
Previously I was getting ~320 MB/Sec Sequential Read Speed (using CrystalDiskMark 3.1), now I am getting ~350 MB/Sec, so it has improved that slightly.
I'll keep people updated on any future success/failures, but am still very open to peoples suggestions and opinions.
Thanks
I think you are wise to note that it may well be a combo of problems.
I'm following this one 'cos you have had a 'mare. I can't add anything helpful yet, but good luck feller!
Hi mate,
Appreciate the comment, and also that you appreciate I have had such a problem with this!, it's been 7 months now, and all I want is a stable system! lol
Combine it with the fact of initially thinking the problem was memory, then RMAing it, then it being found "not faulty" and me having to get quite arsey to get it RMA'd, to then missing the delivery of the RMA part and it getting sent back to scan, and having to re-arrange delivery etc... (this was on the first set of memory, I am now on my third set!! the 3rd set coming from play.com, and lets just say I will NEVER buy from them again, trying to get my delivery took 3 weeks!! and about 30 phone calls (seriously))
Combine all these factors, and the amount of time it has taken, and also the fact that I havent really skimped on any parts - all the parts are good parts, you can hopefully appreciate that I have come quite close to punching it, kicking it and being tempted to throw it out the window!!! lol
Also, I have almost lost all my confidence in it, and dont know if I will ever feel 100% happy with it unless some components are changed, purely due to the fact of all the problems I have had, and also the fact they where so random. I would think I cracked it, start to feel happy about it, and then BANG!!! a BSOD would kick me in the balls again.
Also, its sometimes a little difficult to know (in the situation I was/am in), if the problems are software or hardware related. For example I may run a program (a new program - one ive not used before), and it would crash, making me think "damn machine", but it could in fact just of been a software bug.
Anyway, I just needed this rant to get it out of my system, and now im off to bed, and will carry on the testing tommorrow.
Thanks.
If you are having problems before windows is even starting to load then you would think its
a hardware problem.
If its happening with the bare minimum stuff then you are going to have to accept its going to
mostly likely be the motherboard. I would swap your CPUs over just to rule that out though.
See if you can boot reliably into a Linux OS i.e. without Kernel panic (BSOD equivalent).
I havent got Linux or infact ever used it, and its not really a road I want to go down to be honest.
As Kumago said, the thing I am concerned about is the fact that it sometimes locks even before it gets to windows, ie. it will lock on post (quite rare), or it just wont turn on! (no signal to monitor, everything is running like fans etc), so it points to a hardware problem somewhere down the line I think.
The things that are different at the moment, compared to previous install
1) Optical is on Port 5 as recommended in manual
2) SSD drive is now set to AHCI
3) AMD AHCI drivers installed
4) AMD Southbridge drivers installed
5) 1x2GB Module in DIMM_B1 (previously was 1x2GB in DIMM_A1 and DIMM_B1)
6) Identified possible problem with DT Lite that was installed, so not installed on this build
Im going to run with it for the moment and see what happens as there are a few different variables at play here. If it stays stable for a while then I might try putting the other memory module back in and see how it behaves.
Mmmm. The fact that the mobo has stayed the same throughout your drama does put it up there as a candidate. I thought Watercooled's advice was sound in that it provides a way to test the mobo as a unit without software issues muddying the waters. If it still does the Linux version of BSOD then ...my money is on the mobo mate.
I appreciate the reluctance to get involved with something new on an unstable pc, as well as more learning to try to cure this issue, but I have to say it helped me recently. Think Watercooled was the purveyor of wisdom then as well.
Mind you if it stays stable...why bother changing anything! Just take it and thank heaven if that is indeed the end lol.
