    First gaming rig help required

    Hey all,

not sure if this is in the right place or not. if not feel free to move it.

As the title says i have decided to build my first gaming pc but im on abit of a budget, specififcly im looking at around 500 600 at most.
What i will be using my Pc for is mainly general PC usag, but I also want it to be able to handle RTS games well. Obviously im not looking for the highest graphics and what not, and not the lowest graphics. Just that happy medium in the middle. Obviously I would consider a prebuilt machine bbut as iv noticed they do tend to come up more expensive.

    Really what it is im after is;

What sort of specs i will be looking at
How much am i going to need to spend and will my budget cover what i need it for
Best places to buy component/pre builts ( uk )

    Thanks in advanced

    Alf

The following build is one I specified a few days ago in another thread with parts from Ebuyer - the components may have changed in price a bit!

You could also replace the HD6850 1GB with an HD5850 1GB instead which will work out slightly cheaper:

Listen to the Moose for he speaks wisdom

Although I'd swap the sony optiarc for a Samsung SH-S223
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/145450
Then tend to be more quiet and it's just 12p more

However CAT is short a keyboard and mouse.
Personally speaking gaming keyboard = Meh! I've got a logitech G11 but still have yet to use the extra buttons.
The Logitech keyboards are solid and cheap http://www.ebuyer.com/product/101360
However I'd also give this a go. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/205160
A good mouse is more where I'd focus money, for a basic cheap gaming mouse this looks ok http://www.ebuyer.com/product/185843
for a little more the logitech M500 is very nice http://www.ebuyer.com/product/166176
Although these might also be worth a look http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/3290/25...?ob=4&cpage=7#
    http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/3291/25...k/Product.html

    edit: http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/797659...k/Product.html great cheap mouse.

Re: First gaming rig help required

Chers for the tip, ok so first of my first question and forgive me if this is a silly question but im really no tech guru which is why i came here personly!

    Ok so question 1

The Asus Graphics card, it says it has HDMI out put so would i be able to connect my TV to the computer as i am currecntly via HDMI cable using that out put?

Als owhat order should i look at getting my gear in at as it is really going to be a weekly notion being paid weekly and all so is there any 'best' order or as and when i can afford the stuff?

Again thanks for all thetips so far

(PS i am actually in love witht that slim key board! )

No worries - it's why this place exists.

Yes, you can output to the TV via HDMI. Won't be great to use as a regular monitor if you're sitting up close, but for movies/gaming it will be fine as long as you sit far enough away. You'll still want to get a normal monitor screen too though.

Wait until you can afford it all. By the time you have all the money you'll prob find you can buy slightly better components due to prices falling as newer kit is brought out. (Plus you'll probably save money on delivery charges doing it in one go.)

Also you get more chance to find out if kit is working ok if you buy it all together. Otherwise you might find that the thing you bought first, and have now had for X months was DOA. However because you waited you can't return it for a refund anymore, only for a repair under warranty. Why take the risk?

Computers are not a substitute for a stable, loving relationship with a real human being.

If you can pick up a brand other than asus pref gigabyte or possibly MSI I'd advise you do so Asus can be iffy with RMA which is not really attractive on significant components.
