If the client is that concerned, then overwrite with zeros and use an angle grinder (as others have suggested) to take the surface off the platters. Other option is an acid bath, but then you have the problem of disposing of the acid afterwards. (Sulphuric would probably do it!)

Wel, either would solve the problem, but only one would do it by deleteing the data!
