Depends what bios it has in it to determine the codes, but none of any bios's with 3 beeps relate to a motherboard failure, so could be a ram fault, keyboard fault, video card fault.

Depends if the beeps are long or short.

    Regards
    Jon

Given that you took the RAM out and then it started beeping, I'm inclined to guess that it's complaining about not having any RAM.

As to the system switching straight off again.. hmm.. you say 650W PSU - which PSU is it?

Re: computer turns on then back off

The last time I had a problem like this, It was because the BIOS could not read the speed signal from the CPU fan and it shut the system down to prevent the CPU from being damaged.

Like the others have said, If you remove the ram it will beep.

I've also had problems like this when people have tried to use a PSU that is not upto the job. Exactly the same symptoms.

I bought it yesterday because I only had a very old 400w psu before. It is wirv power 650w. I also took out the ram because I didnt know if the motherboad was dead. To test the motherboard. my son said the beeps ment motherboard was dead but from the comments on here I can rule that out. thanks

You can't rule out the board is dead. That it beeps when the RAM is removed means it's got some power and life, but that's not to say that when it all fires up, it might not be able to grab the amps it needs (hence it's shutting down straight away).

I'm struggling to find any real info on Wirv power supplies, so I can only deduce that they're a cheap rebrand of some equally cheap manufacturer such as EZCool. It presumably isn't dead, only not capable of supplying anything like the power which it states.

I think given the nature of the issue, I'd be looking at the power supply first. If you know someone with a half-decent PSU (eg an Antec, Enermax, Seasonic, FSP, Corsair), it might be worth asking them if you can borrow it to check the rest of your system.

Does DDR3 ram work with an AM2 CPU? could that be causing the problem?

It seems you might have answered your own question. AMD list the memory controller as DDR2 800.

That has to be the cheapest and best option I think. Do let us know how you get on.

Hi computer sorted now, up and running and a lot faster than my old one. The ram being ddr3 and psu am2 was the problem. Anyway thank you everyone for your help.
