    brighthouse laptop

    hi

my sister has bought one of these and something went wrong with it and it had to be sent away to be repaired.

now it was some how lost on the way back to the shop and they have offered her a new replacement laptop that is not even the same spec as the one she had.

this is what they have offered her
    http://www.brighthouse.co.uk/product...sp?id=MP15ACE1

now the laptop she sent off for repair had a Intel core duo 320gb hdd and win 7 on it.

so could she just ask fro her money back as she has paid about 500 quid of it so far and she could get a i5 from Curry's for that sort of change.

shes lost the contract so dunno what it says but she was also paying for insurance as well and has not had a computer for 3 weeks now.

what they replace it with should be better or the same as, not less. and no extra money!

    Re: brighthouse laptop

got this from the faq on there site.

Hire purchase goods must be covered against damage caused by fire, theft or accident. If you do not have home contents insurance policy or alternative insurance to cover Hire Purchase goods, BrightHouse’s Damage Liability Cover is available. Damage Liability Cover (DLC) means that you will not have to continue paying for your product if it is damaged or stolen.

now my sister has said if she takes the new laptop she will have to keep paying for it and they will let her off two weeks payments.

so they want the full whack for the one that was lost from the insurance she was paying for. keep the 500 quid she has already paid and still want another 400 odd quid to pay of the laptop they have offered her.

    Re: brighthouse laptop

if it was lost on the way back from the repair its not her problem, she stops paying end of.

personally i would use this to get out of paying a grand for a £300 laptop anyway.

what they going to do ? come round and take it back ?

let it go to court, she is not in the wrong.

saracen needs to stop by this thread.

oh and that piece of crap they are offerings worth £300 new, if that.

I hate hate hate this company. Praying on the vulnerable and stitch them up with over priced muck on a VERY pricey repayment scheme and then punish them when they screw up themselves.

Cancel the agreement and let them take her to court, thats the only way they can legally enforce the agreement.

This company are nothing short of a bunch of crooks.

just to clarify, when the laptop was faulty, what exactly did she do to send it back? who did she send it to and by what manner?

ie. did she take it back to the shop brighthouse and hand it back to them, they accepted the return and sent it back on her behalf, in which case brighthouse are responsible and she should get either a full refund or replacement (which should be either the same or better spec at least, or of the same monetary value as the original machine - this is opinion not firm law), and of course she would still keep having to continue repayments as she will have a laptop

or did she send it back to the manufacturer direct, or some other company? in that case she would still be liable to keep paying brighthouse as the loss of the goods aren't their fault. i'm not clear from what you say if she has the insurance policy with them or not, but at a quick glance it looks odd in that you stop making payments but you end up with no goods for the money you have paid to date. if another company lost the goods you would need to take up the case with them to cover the loss. they in turn may need to take it up with a courier if lost on the way back to the customer, or if the customer arranged a courier/post and it was lost on the way to repair, the customer would have to pursue the loss with the carrier/post

unfortunately it's the only way some people can get these type of goods, although with some or most of the goods they sell, people probably shouldn't be buying them in the first place if they can't afford them, as most items are luxury goods and furniture. if you are so broke you'd be best with a cheaper option from a second hand or charity shop. even then, you still have to pony up a few quid if you do want/need a sofa/bed/cooker/washing machine, so unable to do that, people will be forced to places like brighthouse where they can pay as they go, and pay twice as much for something by paying up over 3 years

they are just like the catalogues of the 70s and 80s, with housewives paying for clothes and goods on a weekly basis, or toys for kids at xmas, in the days before people went credit card crazy, but aimed at people who can't get credit cards due to insufficient income or bad credit scores
