    DVD drive is playing up

I bought a new ASUS laptop from Comet 2 weeks ago.

It has been working fantastically up to now. But yesterday I was watching a DVD when it got about 3 quarters of the way through it totally froze up. I couldn't close the window by clicking the x so just ejected the DVD. I restarted the DVD no problem moved the slider upto the point in the film that I had got to and pressed the play button. It froze again at exactly the same point. I repeated the restart process but this time moved the slider beyond the freeze point. I played a few seconds then froze up. I repeated that process with the same results. Finally I restarted the DVD from the beginning, it played a few minutes then it froze.

I tried the same DVD on my old and new rig and our TV with no problems at all.

I was wondering if DVD drives are effected by heat build up or whether I just ended up with a dodgy drive.
Of course I'm perfect you just need to lower your expectations.

Have you tried other DVDs to see if you had the same problem? Try some other DVD software too just incase the current one is causing the problem.

So no issues with PowerDVD? Make sure you have installed the latest Windows Media Player.
