Two Monitors - One Black Screen when Gaming

    Hi All,

I have recently added a second monitor into my computer to have other applications open whilst my primary monitor is used for gaming.

Both my monitors are connected by DVI into an ASUS GTX 580 and I've used the Nvidia CP to get them to work - they are both completely fine usually.

If I load up a game (Battlefield: Bad Company 2), the secondary monitor goes completely black but will come back on automatically as soon as I have left the game.

Does anybody know what is causing this, and what I can do to stop it?

    Regards

Re: Two Monitors - One Black Screen when Gaming

Most games are only coded to run one monitor in full screen mode, there may be a registry hack to get the other screen to display while the game is in full screen mode but the mouse will probably be locked to the game screen. Your best option is to run in windowed mode in game with the window resized to fit your main screen BUT you may have issues with the mouse getting lost on the other screen @ an crucial moment...

some games work well in a window, but it's a mare in others.

Eve is popular on twin monitors, to have a web screen open for stats, but not many others...

UNLESSS you're trying to get the GAME to run on two?

    Cheers for the responses

Nope, all I want to do is have applications like TeamSpeak/Xfire open on the second monitor and the game on the first.

I might post on the nVidia forum and see if there is something I can do. I remember doing it a few years back with Battlefield 2142.

Winds0r, this sometimes happens to me when I used to run two screens (I run Eyefinity now)

It doesn't always happen, but when it did, just drop to desktop and back to game and the second screen should show up again, sometimes works first time, sometimes takes a few times.

Re: Two Monitors - One Black Screen when Gaming

    Hi,

I've found that if you run the game windowed in one screen then you should be able to use the second but some games get a bit funny about it.

Bad Company 2 will work ok like this but you have to deal with the window border & if the mouse is taken out of the confines of the window and you click to fire it switches priority to desktop and your soldier stands there like a lemon and you get shot.
