    Itunes a Nas and a Zeppelin - HELP !

    Afternoon Guys

My very lovely wife has just bought me a Zeppelin Ait for my Birthday/Fathers day and It really is about time I goot my head round how to make it work best !!

I understand currently have my main Itunes Library on my main PC - and the Librabry backed up on a synology 211 NAS.

What I would like to do is control my itunes library playback via my Iphone without having my 800 Watt PC on all the time - ie from the NAS. Is this possible??

Thanks for the help - I have spent all day today looking at getting a bigger HD for my laptop to put my library on that (its 120GB) until I thought HOLD ON this is one of the reasons I bought a NAS !!
All it is being used for at the mmoment is a backup device - which is probably a little bit of a waste.
It's just I must admit that building PC's is like meccano - however I have always found IP's and port forwarding a little scary - hopefullly this won't be too complex!!

I think the easiest way is to get a NAS that has a itunes server. Or you could use itunes on the laptop with the content on the NAS and then share the itunes library with the iphone. I don't know if this will work though.

The NAS he has already has an iTunes server

Copy all the music into the "music" folder on the DS.

Log in to the DS, go to Control Panel > iTunes (bottom row under Application Settings) > tick "Enable iTunes Service" give it a name decide if you want to give it a password, click "Re-index" and then click "OK"

Now, whenever you start iTunes on any PC on the network, you'll see the name you chose appear in the left column of iTunes under "SHARED"

You can also use the Synology DS Audio app to control music on the NAS but I find it (the Android version) a little clunky.

Edit: Easier still, if the barrage balloon supports it, is to use AirPlay

Re: Itunes a Nas and a Zeppelin - HELP !

When iCloud or whatever comes online, you could buy a subscription and do something similar via your router (though with no need for the NAS - it could act as your cloud backup ). Otherwise no, you still need something to run iTunes which acts as a server for streaming library content to your zepplin.

If your NAS was actually a server with windows/macOS you could put iTunes on it, but it's probably a NAS rather than a microserver.

Best thing would simply be create some regular play lists to get your library size down to what fits on your phone then use the Zepplin to play from that wirelessly. You should still have enough music to last a while before changing your phone list.

Hmmm - It's the Airplay bit I find confusing !! Is it just as 'simple' as it 'transmitting' whatever I select Itunes to play on my PC?
    i.e allows no remote operation........

    Thanks Guys

A 32GB Iphone 4/5 is next on the list

What I wanted to do was use an 'i' device (Pref an iphone) as a remote control to allow access and to play my whole ITunes collection - ideally off my NAS - but I guess alternitvley could run it off my PC - is that in itself possible?

    This.

Must have been posted more or less the same time as me as I didn't see it, but that makes things much easier. The Zeppelin Air is so named because it does support airplay.

In short, copy your music to the NAS (it's there already). Enable iTunes on the NAS (see quoted post). Enable airplay on the NAS (I have no idea how, must be instructions somewhere) and then your iPhone should be able to see your music on your NAS, control it and output it wirelessly to the Zeppelin speakers.

Sounds great - that is exactly what I wanted to do - lets see how it works lol
