    PC locking up

Its a new PC I built at the weekend, so fresh windows 7 etc.

I was playing some civ 5 earlier when it locked up, but not completely, everything just went REAAAAAALLLY slow. I got task manager open (tool about 3 minutes if waiting) and nothing seems to be strangling the CPU. I have hwmonitor to watch the temps and everything is nice and cool.

I can move the mouse but everything else seems to take a minute or 2 to respond. I'm about to hard reset now and will check the event logs, any ideas?

It's done it the last 2 times within 10 mins of a restart.

    My HW:

    Intel i5 2500k
    Asus p87
    8GB ram
    60GB HDD SSD
    500GB
    GeForce 560ti

edit: wow, it's been so long since i posted here I just noticed my signature from old Shuttle build.... retro stuff there!

    Re: PC locking up

    Any suggestions?

Since there doesn't seem to be anything hogging the CPU what else could be causing the system to become so unresponsive? I have full control of the mouse but it can take an age just to bring task manager up. Could it be graphics related?

    Re: PC locking up

When you open the task manager do you have it set to view 'All' processes from all users ?
Also, have you done a few scans for malware ?
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

does it run ok in safe mode? If so then could be a driver issue. Or some software/service is running and screwing up

    Re: PC locking up

I'd check for malware first of all. Download both SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes, boot up in safe mode and see if they find anything. The first post in http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1578865 is helpful for links to chipset drivers and the like.
