System Problems - Computer locking up & resetting.

    Good Morning.

I am posting this thread to ask for assistance regarding the running of my machine. My specs are on my profile however I will happily if requested.

The primary issue is that my computer crashes and locks up on a regular basis whilst playing games or watching HD Movies. At first I assumed this was graphics related however last Friday my partner purchased a new graphics card for my birthday and I'm still having the same issues, very annoying and frustrating filling me with RAGE!!!.

Anyways, the games I've tested this with are, Crysis 2, Warcraft and Portal 2.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If you could also advise of any programs I could download to perform system testing with.

    Cheers

How much RAM do you have/wht cpu etc? and are you getting blue screens of deaths or just hangs?

Could be a cooling problem, might be overheating (the cpu possibly) when driving it hard, maybe the heatsink isn't sitting properly. Or similarly power supply problem.

Try running prime95 (google it) for a bit to see if they run or fails, or crashes. Also memtest to check your memory

Just be aware that some crashes are nothing to do with your system but may be incompatibilities with the game code, punk buster or even DX 11.
For instance I regulalrly get Black Screen or looping soundtrack crashes. They seem unconnected with which game I'm playing, and I have removed all OCs on the system as well.

Re: System Problems - Computer locking up & resetting.

Thank you, I shall do these tests tonight.

When the computer crashes, it either does a complete reset with no blue screen or the actually image on the screen freezes and loops the sound and I have to force restart it.

I have 8g of the vengeance memory and the phenom II 4x cpu. I have a fan controller for all fans including CPU.

Hope this information is useful and i'll let you know what the results are for the memory tests.

    cheers

Re: System Problems - Computer locking up & resetting.

You have the CPU fan on a fan controller? this should really be in the correct port on the board as it alters the speed of the fan depending on load.

Same as mine (see above). If you do find a cause, please let me know. I have ruled out heat, GPU, CPU so far.

I have a fan controller, this allows me to manually set speeds or place it in auto, I generally have it in auto. DO you think I should unplug the fan controller and allow the motherboard to control the fan speeds?

    Cheers
