    Sound Issues

It's a bit of a long story but to cut it short I had some over heating issues with my HTPC (which would see it hang/crash, turned out to be the GPU). To fix this I decided to take the PCI sound card from my desktop PC (an X-Fi Fatality) and pop it into the HTPC (which sorted things, Win7 picking it up with little trouble). All the trouble has started when I popped the Xi-Fi Titanium PCIe from the HTPC into the desktop machine.

While the Win7 Pro installation was sorted without issue the XP Home and XP Pro 64bit installs have given me nothing but trouble (running these as there are some applications which simply wouldn't run on 7). When trying to install the sound card drivers (after uninstalling the previous drivers) it keeps coming up with the fact that it has detected newer drivers, does nothing and then asks me to reboot (and still nothing).

I have to admit that this is problably the spur that'll get me to migrate to Win7 (and use XP Mode to run those things that don't work on Win7). It's still going to bug me though if only from a technical standpoint.

    Re: Sound Issues

Sorted, deleted a few extranious entries in Device Manager/system devices, rebooted, it auto installed the card, sound is back.
