On my Q6600, is there any reason why the core number 2, always runs 6 or 7 celcius cooler than the other cores in idle and under load? The computer sometimes has hang-ups, but very rarely.. could it be to do with this?

It could be natural variation in the cores it happens. It could also be uneven tightening of the cooler, this happens most on those with screw fittings rather than push-pins, could also be uneven thermal paste.
What are your max temps under load? That would be more likely to cause hang ups than a variance in temp.
Max temp under was under load, 50c. But cleaned all dust today and re-applied new arctic 5 thermal paste. Now max temp under load is 45c. The second core has always been running 5-7c lower than the other cores.
Even now sat typing this, it is 37c - 32c - 37c - 37c
my Q6600 is the same
