HP 8200 elite SFF non-system disk or disk error. no bootable device found

    Hello,

OK got 4 pallets of HP 8200 ready to be installed. I unpack one and try to install win xp on it (haven't got time to build a win 7 image and organise the domain so that some computers use win 7 and others win xp).

So pressing F6 to inallt the sata drivers don't work. the downloaded drivers from HP site all cause a BSOD.

going to storage optios i change sata emulation to ide rather than AHCI. XP installed great! but on taking out the cd after a couple of reboots "non-system disk or disk error. no bootable device found".

OK put cd back in same error, insert a win 7 install cd - same error, replace the HDD with the orginal one (i took out hte orginal HDD incase anything like this happened) - same error.

when i try and select boot device i only see EFI boot sources: windows boot manager. No reference to the cd drive or hdd.

In the bios i can change the boot order but there is no listing of the hdd, just cd/dvd drive, windows boot manager.

The system won't even boot up from the CD drive. Done a cmos reset and no difference.

    Any suggestions greatfully recieved??

    Hi,

thanks for the response. After a bit of work I was able to disable windows boot manager and the system behaved like it should do and boot from CD when specified. I was also able (witha bit of help from the HP support forum) to find out what AHCI drivers was required.

All in all a bit of panic and now the problem is solved, the porblem stemed from that fact that HP did not document which AHCI chip was used.

Anyway all fixed now - creating a base image as we speak
