Depends on the heatsink base type and thermal paste, but generally a small dot of paste in the middle. For HDT I normally put a dot on each heatpipe, a slightly larger dot the first time to fill in the gaps. Not a big fan of HDT myself, a PITA to install relative to the tiny difference in temps they make.

    /cough

    CPU voltage in BIOS

    /cough

check it... sounds like it's over volting for what you've got.

what makes you say that now he has halved his temp by cleaning the dust bunnies ?

it's still high for a low temp chip.. I'm sure those chips are normally very cool.

or have I got the wrong version?

My Quad 6700 Extreme (know for being hotty hot hot) is at 35 ish normally.

Last time I used speed fan it was also showing 10c cooler than the actual real CPU temp (this was with a q6600)

Good you got it sorted but as others said wouldnt use nail varnish remover and little too much thermal paste.

HWmonitor is good to use to keep an eye on temps
