    Re: pc powering down

Have you tried reseating the CPU's heatsink with a fresh application of thermal paste? Failing that, my guess is the motherboard is on its way out.

    Re: pc powering down

Possibly a thermal problem. Check the condition of the capacitors on the motherboard for any leaking.

    Re: pc powering down

Gla to hear that it iss fixed.

That is not a solution I would have thought of, so we;; done to whoever suggested it!

However the CMOS does contain all the BIOS parameters, including power switcg behaviour, so perhaps not so odd if it becomes corrupted. As an aside, I had a dual LAN PC, and one of the LAN ports stopped working. No problem as I just switched to the other, and thought no more about it - until the CMOS backup battery failed at the CMOS was cleared. Reset everything - and the previously defective LAN port started working again! Weird!
