2gb of ram not working anymore

Hello. I have a problem with one of my 2gb ram sticks. I have an ASUS M70V notebook with 4gb ram. Untill now all 4 gigs runned perfectly. Now my notebook wont boot properly untill i get rid of one of the sticks. The strange thing is that the pc will work with either one of the sticks plugged in the first ram slot but not with both plugged in in the separate slots. The OS is Windows 7 32 bit. Sorry for my english

Sounds like there is a problem with the second memory slot itself.

If you are able to try some different memory in the second slot of your laptop and try your memory in another machine then this will help to confirm this further.

Have you made any changes in the system configuration or updated the BIOS recently?

This problem came out of nowhere. Something like yesterday it worked fine with the 4 gigs of ram but today not... And I never entered in BIOS to make any changes what so ever. As in system configuration, changes were made here and there of course but not near the day when the notebook whouldn't boot properly because of this problem. I'm starting to think that maybe it's the motherboard itself that has some issues.

I would be inclined to agree with you.

I would still test the memory as per my previous post to make sure.

Have you tried booting from the second slot only?

I would still check if the memory itself is ok.

Boot UBCD with the 1st stick in the working slot. Run any of the memory tests and see if passes. Then the second stick in the same slot.

Use some canned air to clean the memory and slots.
