how do i play flash on 2nd monitor without loosing focus full screen?

i want to use a dual monitor setup on xp pro 32bit to play fullscreen flash in one browser on one monitor (ie. tvcatchup) whilst browsing etc in the other monitor. right now i have IE playing tv catchup in one and using firefox to browse in the other

it's a recognised problem with flash that only the main window can display flash in "full screen" mode, so if i go full screen the minute i do something else in the other window i lose focus and it ends full screen mode

i understand there are a few workarounds to this, but what's the best method that works with the latest flash on xp? does anyone use this? i believe it's the same problem with other flash media such as youtube

Ive used Opera in full screen mode, then just zoomed in to get it pretty much full screen. That works for me. Not perfect, but good enough.

Re: how do i play flash on 2nd monitor without loosing focus full screen?

i tried using the zoom in IE but it doesn't zoom the flash part. i think i have opera, chrome and safari installed as well as the normal stable release and the nightly builds of firefox so i'll try them and see if they work

i saw some "fixes" online that involve changing a DLL as there is a flag that undoes the fullscreen option if the window loses focus to another application, but at first quick attempt i couldn't get it to work and i was wondering if anyone else had any experience in doing this, such as playing youtubes in one screen whilst typing in another

There are cracks you can do to make it work, just google something like how to make flash stay full screen on duel monitors or something like that.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with hardware accelerated flash. As the same happens in all full screen d3d apps.

Just use a different browser, IE isn't exactly a great browser any way

yeah, that's why i was using it for flash video as i use firefox normally. it was so i could have one browser in each window. i tried one hack but it didn't work. i haven't tried chrome, safari or opera yet

it does have something to do with hardware acceleration as some sites say it works if you turn that off, but it didn't for me. i thought this would have been a more commonly discussed and solveable issue, but i suppose i've only found it a problem right now, and only because of dual screen use. i suppose not many people will want to do what i do

Re: how do i play flash on 2nd monitor without loosing focus full screen?

As I said, it works with Opera. I think the zoom function in Opera works at a different level of the page renderer than IE, so everything including Flash and Java is also zoomed. I don't notice any performance hit with it either.

i got it working in chrome. i'm not sure if it was just chrome, or because i ran something to hack flash, but it worked, so thanks for the input
