Hiper Type-R 580W PSU issues

Hi guys,

I have in the past got a RMA for this when I bought it in 2006 and did the RMA in 2008 - obviously it is out of its warranty now.

Just wondering if there is any way I can fix it? I know there is an issue with these particular PSU's dieing with people on their second or third replacement. If I am not sure if its because there is a faulty part in the main power supplying to the motherboard or not because I tried it in an old dell pc and it didn't boot up but like on my PC - it does show indications of life as certain lights power up.

I was thinking maybe one or two of the notches are faulty and therefore it will not power up the motherboard knowing it has a faulty part in it. I really do not want to buy a new PSU for this, I just wanted to give it to a friend to let him borrow but seemingly nor does he want to spend £15-30 for a cheap working one.

Any help would be appreciated guys

Yep, never mess with a psu unless your totally confident in your skills, even then think twice about it!

But I was thinking more for advice on Hiper than a random thing about PSU's itself. For all I know its minor but thats why I asked on the forums as it does look to be a generic fault with these PSU's

the PSU's are known for taking the pc out with them, the reputaion was so bad they shut up shop.

Wow, ok. I had no idea. Though I did wonder why their e-mail system was messed up.

That's got me worried about my 5 year old one, I've had no problems with it yet, touch wood.
At least it's only powering an old PC which wouldnt be the end of the world if it died.

I thought I had posted in here but obviously not.

I used to have a Hiper PSU, and it blew after a couple of years and took a few things with it. Was quite expensive at the time as well.

I have also had a problem with this PSU and RMA it back in 2009, its still working in the system now but the original problem was that it popped on turning on.

it has done this once recently also, so you think it should be replaced now?
