    Completely Stumped :(

    Hi,

A friend bought over their netbook, an Acer Aspire One, it froze on loading windows, last file it loads is classpnp.sys.

Ok, I have seen that before so that wasn't an issue, thought I could repair it, now this is where the fun starts.

Took the hard drive out the netbook and plugged into PC, ironically it boots straight into windows 7. So I thought I would run Ubunutu Live on the netbook to see what would happen.

Ubunutu Live, gets to OS selection menu then freezes.
Windows XP, again, freezes at XP logo.
Windows 7 repair, can't even get it to load, from Disk or the hard drive.
    Cannot load any OS whatsoever.
However, it will load stuff like Hirens boot CD and I can run the utils off of it.

The hard drive is fine, full surface scan, bad sector check etc etc
Memory test passed fine as well.

So I am completely lost now. I would say it was a motherboard failure but hirens boot cd works and the utils and it passed the system check.

Any help would be appreciated, please remember though this is a netbook and as such has only like 4 options in the bios!

    Thanks
    Jon

Any SMART errors on the drive? also try some spare RAM if you can. It could still be the problem

Does it seem to be locking up when trying to get to a more advanced graphics setting, ie its fine in text mode but trying to load a desktop causes it to lock up? May be the GPU?

Pancake, no smart errors, and tried different ram

Blueball yeah I did think that too, it seems to be when it tries to do anything apart from basic text, both in linux and windows!

If it is anything else i dont think it will be worth it to replace the board

If its the GPU which is the strongest contender at this point, then yeah, its not a repairable/replacement item really
