Dead laptop, amber blinking icon?
Hey guys any ideas what I can do with this dead HP compaq nc6400 laptop? Apparently some ice was left on the lid, which may have caused water damage, but was working for 2 days afterwards.
Friend does not have a lot of cash so would like to repair if it's possible!
I Have two of these laptops so have tried two different batteries and chargers, no luck. Where can I find out what the blinking battery codes mean exactly?
Whilst plugged into mains, with a battery;
-constant GREEN charge led.
-power button does nothing.
Whilst plugged into mains, NO battery;
...Nothing.
NOT plugged into mains, with a battery;
-no lights until press power button, then;
>steady GREEN (power) light,
>charge light then flashes 7 times AMBER
>then charge light flashes steady green then amber

Your best bet for finding out what the blink codes mean would be the manufacturer/manual; http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...dTypeId=321957
If it's water damage, there's not really much that can can be done, bar replacing the affected parts, which if it's seeped through the keyboard, the most likely spot, would be motherboard and possibly other parts. It's strange it kept working for 2 days, but water damage can behave like a short(basically what it is tbh, residue from the evaporated liquid or it's corrosive effects shorting the circuit), thus can be intermittent. You can try carefully clearing the internals of any residue with a lint free cloth or alike and compressed air, but it's a long shot. Most likely you're looking at a professional repair or a new lappy. :(
