Lots of static when using Line in.

I have an onboard sound card. It's 6 channel and I have surround sound speakers along with a Mic and a line in jack connected to the sound card.

The line in jack is my Xbox 360.

When line in is enabled, I get REALLY bad static/interference. Scrolling or moving windows around cause bad crackling and hissing until I mute the line in port.

If I get a dedicated sound card, would I no longer get interference?

    Cheers

depends where the cable runs, onboard sound to a port on the case usually means its going past a few componants that cause static, an exernals not got that issue if you plug it into the back of the pc.

thats the reason i cant use the case ports on my x-fi, i have to use the rear sockets on the card.
