Computer constantly shutting down...

Ok, well I think this has been happening for at least 1-1 half months. My computer after being on for a while just will Shut off then it wont turn back on. I then leave it for 5+ minutes and I have to flip the power switch off then back on then press the on button to turn the computer back on. Give or take 15-20 minutes it will shut off once again. It sounds like a big outage or something cuz everything as in monitor and tower shut off completely. If I try to turn the computer back on doing the "flip switch flip back on etc." thing, right after it turned off by itself, it will light up the lights for like 1/2-2 seconds then shut off once again. I'm wondering maybe this is a PSU problem but i'm kinda specticle about that. What do you guys think?

I'd say its the PSU. Have you got another PSU you could use for a bit? This would tell you if it is the PSU. I used to get random reboots before i got my thermaltake, so yea, i think its the PSU.

Its definitely the PSU, same thing happened to me. I have a nice levicom PSU too :( but it was only 350w and my pc was drawing more power than it could supply, so it was overheating and causing the circumstances in your situation. I replaced it with a [cheep] but totally silent and atm stable winpower 550w and its workin great again =)i

Hmmm thanks a lot! The psu is a REALLY old REALLY cheap 350w. I was wondering while I look for a new one, maybe you guys could show me a cheap 550w psu? Or if my computer doesnt need it (i'll give specs), maybe you guys can point me into a better direction. Maybe a 450w is just as good? Oh, and does another computer right besides this one, both using same 2 outlets (using outlet attachments of course) mean anything to this problem?...

Could it possibly be the Cpu overheat protection?

not saying it's broken your. If it is it could be somethign as simple as your heatsink/case needing a dusting :) Just covering all the options

no it wouldnt be that trust me =) CPU overheating would crash windows well before the mobo warning went off - plus 99% of tho mobo protection is just audio

it will be the PSU i would guarantee it. www.planetmicro.co.uk have a cheap 550w WinPower PSU for sale which performs alot better than it looks like it will. Totally silent too =)

it happend to my brothers pc this way. the cpu fan fell off (don't ask) when he was away. the pc was just sat powered down with the NF7 classic two tone siren wailing. would reboot but then powere off in a similar fashion.

Wouldn't hurt checking before outlay on a new power supply.

hmm.. I had this prob recently.. My nf7 board started claiming that part of it had a high voltage - this was random. It was not running overclocked because my comp does not need the benefit right now. It might in a few months.

The problem just seemed to sort itself out. Not had the problem in about 2 months.

This is the only example of a true gremlin in a machine I have ever seen !

I used to have a Qtec that would do the exact same symtoms to me,replaced with a Enermax and all became fine.

I would say PSU but as the guys say dont put your house on it ;)
