    Help! Virus! Spreading! Fast!

Hey, this has come up in the last 30 mins, and AVG seems to be ignoring it-

    "Virus@CoreException|C0000005, 0002AA72

    is found in file

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\blahblahblah (various files)

To remove this virus, please run AVG for Windows"

Any ideas? It comes up with a new file every minute or so in the "Blahblahblah" part, and AVG wont do anything, it just passes over it.. and i have all the updates

also.. close your net connection to stop it spreading, unless u have found a website saying it spreads by email or something.

This obviously means you can't read the thread though... Hmmm

    AVG is crap.

One of our work laptops keeps showing a pop-up box saying "blah is infected with trojan <trojan name>, please run AVG to fix".

So we run it and it finds nowt

check the virus vault. Just an idea but sometimes wiping that helps.

VV is clear and I have even deleted the file it says is infected yet it says "file.exe" is infected with "blah" virus yet the file doesnt even exist (hidden or otherwise). This includes checking recycle bin etc.

If you run XP, it'll often find things in the system restore files. You have NO virus, but system restore has it should you ever need it!

I had the exact same problem, also with a fully updated version of AVG running, when I got infected with the 'msblaster' virus. AVG picked it up immediately and cleaned my machine but it kept coming up with a warning message because right at the time I got infected a 'system backup' had occurred and remnants of the virus had been saved in the backup file. They did no harm there but AVG cannot remove them even though it can detect them. The simple solution, as pointed out above, was to disable then re-enable system restore. This wipes out all your old backup files.

try stinger - but set it up before running it - detect/delete

    http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

"Stinger is a stand-alone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. It is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection, but rather a tool to assist administrators and users when dealing with an infected system. Stinger utilizes next generation scan engine technology, including process scanning, digitally signed DAT files, and scan performance optimizations."
