    Resolution Issue

The maximum, and what Windows 7 is telling me, recommended resolution of my monitor is 1920x1080. Setting it to that resolution makes the image look very poor, however. Poor, as in, the colours look very sharp as if the contrast is too high and the text is blurry. Setting the resolution to 1680x1050 makes the image look very warm i.e. the colours are normal, text is easy to read, and so on. The latter is just a lot more appealing to the eye. I have played with my television's settings as well as with the settings available to me on my desktop and have come no further. Do any of you know how I can display at 1920x1080 without losing image quality? Thanks in advance!

What interconnect are you using? (e.g. DVI/HDMI/VGA)

And the native resolution of the TV *is* 1920x1080 I assume? (It's the obvious question I know, but worth asking at this early stage!)

    Re: Resolution Issue

Hi Have you tried changing the resolution, via your graphics cards control panel?

With either Nvidia or Ati cards, they allow you to add suitable resolutions to your config.

You can then try them out to see if the picture looks better, or refuse to use the changed res, if they don't.

Also maybe try changing the monitors refresh rate, just in case that is wrong.

    hope this helps

I have played around with the resolutions via the Intel graphics control panel but to no avail. 1920x1080 still looks grainy while 1680x1050 looks warm and smooth. I have messed around with the refresh rate too but again to no avail. Thank you for your help, though.

    Re: Resolution Issue

It could be your TV applying to much processing, or it could be that you're upscaling a background image/text and the image quality is suffering compared to letting the TV do it.

My money is on this. When I got my samsung 40inch and was setting up my HTPC, 2 things happened, there were black borders, which despite checking the overscan settings in the drivers, no options. Quite a few TVs have options that give 1:1 pixel mapping, but call it different names, I would try to have a look in the manual to see if there are any modes that do this.

If its just image then, as Kalniel says its more than likely that there are too many 'dynamic' options. Turn every image enhancement option off, find the colour temperature and make it fairly cold (warm works well with TV but looks rubbish for computers IMO) and look for any image sharpening. Thats the option that did it for me.

    Re: Resolution Issue

Yes, likely to be the TV that you are using but also quickly try either a different TV or monitor to see if you have a similar outcome.
