    Now my system is dead...

So I went to make lunch, came back, sat down, computer restarts, and my TV can't register a signal from my desktop via HDMI anymore. The little lights next to the ethernet port won't blink anymore either. Everything is plugged in correctly. I press the power button, it starts up for a second, then down, then boots up all the way. I don't have a clue as to what's going on. It worked fine this morning, all of Thursday, and Wednesday when I received the parts from Scan and built it. It's the weekend now, a graphics card is coming Monday, and I am beyond frustrated. Please help. Thank you.

So, it boots but no network ? How do you know it's booted if no monitor ?
We need to get into the BIOS i think.

After that one second of booting up, one second of dying, it then just runs normally. Well, I assume it does as it just runs. Can't see anything, though, as my TV detects no HDMI signal and judging from how the ethernet port lights aren't blinking, no network either. Don't know how to get into the BIOS if there is no image.

Did that too. Didn't help unfortunately. I am putting everything back together now, will then try one last time, and then just have some friends look at it while I sit in a corner trembling.

Agreed. Try with the bare bones though. One RAM, GPU, HDD. I assume the TV works otherwise ? Do you have another cable ?

Hang on - how do you know it's booting or even posting ?
Are there any LED indicators on the mobo ? If so what do they show ?

Tried that. The TV works. Plugged the HDMI cable into the old laptop too and that worked. I have a VGA cable but the port on the motherboard, just like on the cable, is male.

Well, all the fans and lights work. The HDD is spinning too. Disk drive works as well. The computer is seemingly running. No lights on the motherboard, but the CPU cooler works too.

    Eliminated screen and cable...
So sounds like it is booting, but pausing halfway through. As if it was hitting a roadblock in the boot sequence then defaulting to something else. What are using for a GPU now ?
We need to see what's happening. Got a spare GPU ? Can your mate bring one ?

The Intel integrated graphics of my i5 2500K. A mate's coming over tomorrow but nobody else is available currently. The mate coming over is also a PC gamer as well as an electronic engineering student so hopefully he can help when he has the problem right in front of him. I am just thinking, over 900£ spent and dead within two days...

Re: Now my system is dead...

Not dead. Just resting. Otherwise no boot would be possible. I suspect a corrupt windows install or buggered BIOS settings, but we need to see whether it's booting first.
If the chip is fried RMA. With a new GPU probably not fatal. I'll be around off and on if you need anything.

Reading Zevens posts again, it sounds to me like hardware. Fans spinning, HDDs whirling and lights lighting does not mean it's booting.

Does it beep at all when you switch it on? Did it before?

Reassembled the whole thing, started it up, put the Windows 7 disk in, and again, no HDMI signal and so on. It just had to happen on a Friday, didn't it? Thanks again for your help. I just hope my friend can fix whatever is bothering it tomorrow when he takes a look at it.

Re: Now my system is dead...

So my friend who is an electronic engineering student agrees that I plugged everything in correctly and believes it's the motherboard BIOS that got corrupted. Whatever. No idea how that happened, especially considering how it was still working when I entered the room again with a hot plate of spaghetti bolognese. Luckily, I don't just have one friend who's studying electronic engineering. Another friend told me to reset the BIOS by jumping the CMOS. Had to have him explain to me what the hell I should do. His solution worked, I am on my computer again.

Nevertheless, I apparently missed the Windows 7 activation period. YaY me. So I tried activating this piece of crap multiple times but to no avail. "This be not genuine Windows 7 LOL" In the end, I had to copy down 48 digits, call up Microsoft, get back 36 digits, put those in, and now Windows 7 is activated. Hurray for purchasing software the legal way and still having to go through all this crap.

Anyway, the wound on my hand where I cut myself from putting this bloody thing together is healing up nicely. However, I still have one issue... Hope my new graphics card will fix it.

I thank everyone who was there for me and genuinely tried to help me. I really am very grateful. Building the PC was easy (apart from bleeding). Installing Windows 7 was easy. Everything ran wonderfully for two days. However, when the thing died on me for no apparent reason, I just wanted to give up as I couldn't figure out what was wrong and neither could the first friend I mentioned, and he's a PC gamer as well as an electronic engineer...

    Thanks again, guys!

I see from your system specs you where (are?) over-clocking the processor, that's probably the culprit there, I assume you haven't reapplied the OC and the system is now stable?
