    Re: random black screen

Do you have any supporting info in Event Viewer such as application errors?.....normally a good place to start as it will give the windows id ref for the event and the nature of the event.

Re: black screening, sometimes blue with verticle lines, sometimes grey

i have tried my friends gpu and my PC has been fine no stupid crash. I have emailed scan yesterday and they still haven't got back to me i really do think they mucked up as they sent a new psu and the same problem happens, i don't think they want to refund a card worth so much what shall i do next?

This is why you have been told to download GPUz and run it as if the fans on the GPU are not cooling it as they should be ie as soon as you start a game then this will help you.

    Re: random black screen

Your best bet is to try and get your card tested in your mates pc even it means putting your psu in as well then it will be narrowed down to one or both of them.

this tells me that the GPU is at fault. Did you buy the gpu from Scan ? Have you spoken to them ?
Call their cust services and talk to them.

    Re: random black screen

Hang on - you've already RMA'd the GPU and the PSU ?
So they've replaced the PSU but not the GPU ?
In the meantime your machine works fine with the new PSU and another GPU. What happens if you put your GPU into a known working system ? If it fails, then that would be fairly definitive that the GPU is still kaput.
If so, get back on the phone and tell them, and ask for another RMA on that basis. You might also want to raise a thread in the Scan after sales service area.

See if you have a "PCI-Express Clock Drive Strength" setting in your BIOS.

If so, make sure its around 800/900. I've seen a couple of systems that have this setting and it can default to ~700 and some cards fail.
